A Church Family in the Heart of Totnes

Safeguarding

Promoting a Safer Church

Jesus often acknowledged, rescued and built up damaged and broken people in his ministry. Some were outcasts and some had suffered trauma, often in hidden ways. If Jesus did this, then we should do it too in our own community.

The safeguarding of children, vulnerable adults, and each other is at the heart of a healthy church family. Effective training and safeguarding procedures will facilitate and enable a vibrant community - one which can provide room for creative and fun environments. At Totnes United Free, safeguarding is considered to be everyone's responsibility, overseen by key individuals. We work hard to ensure that we are operating in line with current best practice, as recommended by the Baptist Union.

If you are concerned that someone you know is at risk of abuse, or is being abused, or presents a risk to others, please seek advice from a Church Safeguarding Officer. If necessary, report the matter to the Local Authority Social Care Services or the Police without delay.

TEAM

Naomi Oppong

DPS
Naomi shares the role of Designated Person for Safeguarding with Lucy. They are both part of the wider safeguarding team at TUFC. Our church plays a vital role in the lives of many children, young people and adults. It is a collective responsibility to keep everyone safe, so all can be cared for and nurtured within the church community.

Naomi loves to knit, sew and make, mainly with the help of her two daughters. Oh! and eat the cakes her husband bakes!

Lucy Snowsill

DPS
Lucy shares the DPS role with Naomi. They are both part of the wider safeguarding team at TUFC. Lucy is also involved with our Children's Work on Sundays. Our church plays a vital role in the lives of many children, young people and adults. It is a collective responsibility to keep everyone safe, so all can be cared for and nurtured within the church community.

Lucy has a range of hobbies from sailing (well once she has finally made her current project seaworthy), knitting and dance. She also enjoys getting outdoors exploring Dartmoor with her family (but they do cheat and take their camper van so they can enjoy a cream tea and hot chocolate after an adventure)!
